Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year Competition

Watch Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year competition this Wednesday 8pm UK time.

She touched the lives of so many people around the world. It has been so moving watching people I was selected as one of the fifty wildcards to enter the heats at Royal Ascot. It was fun taking part. The heat on that day was unbearable. Better than the wind and rain at other locations that participants had to endure!

Apart from choosing what art materials to take, I had to think about what to wear that would suit the occasion whilst allowing comfort to paint. It’a a miracle I didn’t end up with paint on my dress. We were at the entrance to the royal enclosure and it was interesting to watch all the fancy frocks, tail coats and hats. The atmosphere was electric once the race began. I was distracted by all the happenings around including the picnic bay. It was good to talk to other artists each with their own set of troubles of such an event. Everyone was supportive. The judges walked around and stopped to chat. Having been a fan of this TV program, it was a fantastic experience taking part and also talking to Joan Bakewell, Stephen Mangan, Tai Shan Schierenberg, Kathleen Soriano, Kate Bryan.

Thanks to my lovely friends for supporting me – from driving to bringing picnic and enduring the sweltering heat!
