Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

  • Post author:

The passing away of the longest serving monarch HM Queen Elizabeth II marks the end of an era. You do not have to be a royalist to admire the life and work of Her Majesty. Her dedication and commitment to a life of service are inspiring. A woman of strength and resilience, she gracefully led a life of duty.

She touched the lives of so many people around the world. It has been so moving watching people pouring into London to pay their respects as the Queen lay in state queuing for as long as sixteen hours!

Today I was watching the funeral ceremonies at Westminster Abbey on TV. When the hearse was on the way to Windsor, I decided to walk up the A4 in Chiswick. I got there five minutes before the procession passed. I had a clear view and captured the moment. Please click here to view the video.

Here are some interesting stories about the late Queen (source: thebritishmonarchy.co.uk)

  • Upon Elizabeth’s accession to the throne, she was asked by her Private Secretary what her regnal name would be, to which she responded, “My own, of course, what else?”.  Several monarchs have used a name different to their first name. For example, Queen Victoria opted for Victoria rather than Alexandrina.
  • At the end of the war in Europe, on Victory in Europe Day, Elizabeth and Margaret mingled incognito with the celebrating crowds in the streets of London.

Having grown up in India, there has always been a ‘presence’ of the British empire. Please share your thoughts. I would like to hear how the Queen has influenced your life.

I’m working on some commemorative artwork drawing on nature as inspiration. I was wondering about the significance of autumn as an end to life as I picked up some autumnal leaves on the way to my studio. The other artwork being the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee mural that was commissioned by Hammersmith and Fulham council. It will remain on Dawes Road for few more months along with paintings by seven other local artists. It is the only work of mine that is available as a limited edition giclee print.
